How Much Stone Do I Need?

Updated: May 22, 2022

Knowing how much stone you will need for a project is always a challenge. Thankfully, we have made it easy to know much stone you need. Visit our "Get a Quote" page and you will find a calculator on that page! Simply input your dimensions, select your density, and click the button to calculate the total amount of material you need!

Calculation Examples

Let's say you have a rectangular project that is 4 feet long, 2 feet wide, and you want material 9 inches deep. You are using Crushed Gravel with a density of 105lb. per cubic foot. The material is $50 per ton.

Volume = Length (in feet) × Width (in feet) × Depth (in inches) = 4×2×9 = 0.222yd3

Weight = Density × Volume = 105lb/ft3 × 0.222yd3 = 0.315t

Cost = Weight × Price Per Ton = 0.315 × 50$/t = $15.75

The math can get complex, but our calculator takes care of that for you.
